Arranged for the Premier Concert of the Tokyo Clarinet Ensemble at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, December 1979. I wrote on the program of the day, "I had additions to this beautiful work written for a violin." An unsettled sentiment at this time led to the arrangement of a simpler clarinet quintet version of "Chaconne", and 16 years later, I arranged "Chaconne" for wind orchestra. To be honest, I haven't found the answer to my first question, "Is it okay to add to a sophisticated work that has reached a state where there is no waste?" As well known, "Chaconne", which has about 14 minutes of 257 measures, is the 5th movement of "Partita No. 2 in D minor for solo violin". Widely known as a single work, arrangements have been attempted for various instruments since the early days. Piano arrangements by Busoni and Brahms, piano elaboration by Schumann, guitar by Segovia, orchestrations by Stokowski, etc. This arrangement was made after studying those as much as possible. Thirty years have passed since then, and I regret that there should have been a more appropriate way of arrangement, but now I miss the enthusiastic challenge of that time. Thinking back, it is the root of my arrangement work.

Initially, alto clarinet and basset horn were used (3 parts for Bb clarinet) according to the instrumentation of the Tokyo clarinet ensemble, but when published, it changed to four Bb clarinets and basset horn was removed. The re-instrumentation made it easier to play, but unfortunately, the astringent tone that suits this work has faded.
