This piece depicts the exhilaration and lightness of the sightseeing train, Glacier Express, which runs through the Swiss Alps. To make it accessible for many school bands, I based the work on a simple, friendly melody, kept the technical demands moderate, and scored it mindful of smaller ensembles.
The train's red cars blend beautifully with the brilliant blue sky, the green meadows, and the snowcapped Alps, creating a striking harmony of colors. In this work as well, I tried to express that vivid contrast of colors and the grandeur of Alpine nature through a lively, buoyant melody.
Premiered in 2000 by the Shin-Hachioji Wind Orchestra.
