Commissioned by the Atsugi Civic Wind Symphony and premiered at the 2024 ensemble contest. The ensemble previously commissioned and premiered two other works - Nightingale's Devotion and Homage to Catalunya.As the title suggests, the piece heavily incorporates chromaticism throughout. It is structured in three movements:The first movement features rapid passages filled with chromatic clashes and occasional syncopated rhythms, creating a sense of tension and strength.The second movement takes on a more dreamlike atmosphere, with soloistic passages - particularly in the 1st part - set against soft, beautiful harmonies throughout the ensemble.The third movement begins with a unison theme. To avoid establishing a clear tonal center, I carefully crafted the motion of the notes. The piece concludes with a return of the first movement's chromatic material, building to a powerful and dissonant ending.While individual technical skill is essential in performing this work, I hope performers will strive to go beyond mechanical precision and focus on bringing out the musical expression within.
