Hiroki Takahashi

Takahashi was born in 1979. He studied general music with Kiyoshi Yumoto while a student at Kita-Tama High School. He learned "image music" and jazz in an arranging and composition course at Pan School of Music. He has been playing piano more than ten years and trombone for eight years. His compositions received awards in the Zoorasian Brass Arranging Contest, the Sakura Island Image Song Contest, and a special prize from the Tottori Folk Song Arranging Contest. A work has also been selected as a required piece for the All Japan Band Competition. Leading compositions include "British Folk Song March", "Street Performer’s March", and "Moon Forest Suite."

Band Works

The Times
This piece consists of three movements, Present, Past, Future. I intended for this piece to be fun to perform and hear in a variety of situations. Please do enjoy it.
Amusement Park Suite for Wind Ensemble
The title theme is for a suite that is enjoyable for players and audience alike.
From The Forest of Saariselkä
Saariselkä is a village in a mountainous area of northern Finland, famous for its northern lights (aurora). This tone poem captures the romantic beauty of a nearby forest.

Chamber Music

Give Remix - Saxophone Quartet
It's a medley of Studio Ghibli anime hits. The title is a play on words for Ghibli Mix!
Alseid of the Forest -Marimba Trio & Percussion
"Alseid of the Forest" is a percussion ensemble that can be played by three players on a single marimba, or by four players including a percussionist. I chose this title because a marimba sounds like a forest.

Flexible Ensembles

Suite for Small Band No. 2 - Flexible 6 Parts & Optional Percussion
Four movements of this surprising little suite include a humbly elegant Intrada, a rousingly comic Scherzo, a reserved Minuet, and a bold March that combine to make a smaller ensemble sound musically quite grand.

March

Light of Hope Concert March and Processional
Light of Hope is dedicated to those affected by the 2011 Northeast Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. Its core message of a better tomorrow and triumph over difficulties makes this concert march very popular repertoire in Japan.

Brass Band

Kids Parade based on Japanese Melodies
Great for either opening or ending a concert, many people young and old will enjoy this piece.
