Many of Taruya's works are characterized by themes based on historical figures and legends, which he portrays with dramatic and expressive musical storytelling. Taruya graduated from the Department of Composition at Musashino Academia Musicae. He has received numerous commissions from wind ensembles and marching bands across Japan and beyond. In addition to composing, he is active as a wind band instructor, competition adjudicator, and writer, making significant contributions in all these areas.

La Reine Victoria - Advanced Edition
This piece concerns the great British monarch, Queen Victoria. It portrays her tumultuous life from accession to the throne to her later years. "La Reine Victoria" is a rose created in France in 1872, belonging to the Old Bourbon roses. "La Reine" means "The Queen" in French, making it a rose truly dedicated to Queen Victoria.
Atala de l'éclat
The title Atala de Luclora can be translated into English as [The Radiance of Atala.] This work is inspired by my earlier piece, The Burial of Atala (unpublished), which I composed in 2003 as a gesture of gratitude when my mentor Hiroshi Sato transferred to another school. Drawing on this motif, I sought to depict the world portrayed in Girodet-Trioson`s painting, The Burial of Atala.
Oscar Fantasia
This fantasia was composed as a tribute to his illustrious achievements and his sincerity and compassion. The music embodies the spirit of Broadway, expressing the dream of having Oscar himself write its lyrics.

Chamber Music

A Picture Book Without Pictures
A picture book without a picture captures the city of Pompeii when Mount Vesuvius erupted, causing many deaths. At first, a girl wanders the city singing, then comes lamentations to those affected by the volcanic eruption, with hopes for the future. The latter part is a reflection on the past city.
A Gap of Light - Percussion Quintet
The Aurora Borealis is light created from electron plasma flying from the cosmos (the sun) that crashes into the earth's atmosphere. The Aurora flickers and changes shape. It is as if living lights were frolicking above the earth. One can hear a symphony emitting from the rays of surreal light. This view of light energy playfully dancing in the skies close to the earth should be clearly portrayed through this ensemble.
