Percussionist Yumiko Watanabe continues the Mastery Clinic for Percussion series with a comprehensive look at the keyboard mallet family. She reveals her passion for productive fundamental training by covering all the essentials of this diverse percussion group: history, construction, mallet and instrument types, care and maintenance. Musical training begins with proper posture and grip, knowledge of mallet options, appropriate tone production, most effective execution for blend, accuracy and endurance. Ms. Watanabe works with various students doing intensive basic training exercises from the enclosed study guide, and skillfully encourages their improvement through a deeper knowledge of each instrument’s scope of performance as well as their own individual potential.
