The operetta "Orphee aux enfers Ouverture (Orpheus in the Underworld)" (commonly known in Japan as "Heaven and Hell") was composed and premiered in 1858. This scandalous parody play is based on the Greek myth of "Orpheus and Eurydice" and incorporates sharp social satire. Despite its controversial nature, the operetta gained popularity with each performance and eventually achieved great success. The overture, which includes music from various scenes in the play, has become a well-known piece today.
