This arrangement takes the traditional folk song Soran-bushi, originating from the Shakotan Peninsula, and sets it to the distinctive beat of "The Godfather of Soul" James Brown's Cold Sweat (1933–2006). In the middle section, the drumming style of Jeff Porcaro's Mushanga (1954–1992) is introduced, complemented by an original, flowing melody in the upper woodwinds. This creates an arrangement rich in variety and character.

Performance Notes

First and foremost, listen to Cold Sweat and Mushanga to get a solid grasp of the groove. In rhythm-driven music like this, the roles of the bass and drums are critical, as are the sharp rhythms of the sections layered above them. These elements are key to a successful performance. Pay meticulous attention not only to articulation and timing but also to "how the notes end," as this will greatly affect the overall sound. The piano part is written in a condensed style, much like a "Condensed Score" intended for smaller ensembles. Thus, it is not necessary to play exactly as written in the score.
